how racism is present in our daily life
RACISM - prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.
Racism has been present in India since FOREVER! Even from our nursery rhythms, to our films.
Even when we sing
“Nani teri morni ko chor le gaye,
Baaki jo bajha tha kalle chor le gaye”
The thieves are always black!! Why?? Why is no one there to point it out??!! Because it is deep-rooted. hardly we ever realize. In our movies, if we slightly observe the skin color of the comedian and the villain, in most cases they would be on the darker side. Whenever things are about south Indian, only dark color is to be used to represent them. And the hero and the heroine!!! I can write for ages about it!!
A perfect white handsome, perfect cheek-boned, six-packed hero and a slim, size 0, white, sweet, and kind heroine. Why is it becoming a standard requirement to be beautiful??
Every day you open the tv and see perfectly white heroines cat walking in ads for matrimonial ads, makeup ads, fairness cream, or in simple words for every ad!!! Even there was a brand name “fair’ and lovely. If nothing, then look up the views to the YouTube videos on how to improve your skin tone videos!! RACIAL isn't it??
And don't forget those Hindi songs
“Tenu kala chashma jachda ae, jachda ae gore mukhde te.”
Ya, this song was a hit, we spend a lot of time singing it, but look at the lyrics!! Quite unexpected right?
Here is another one
“Brown girl se mera dil bharta nahi, gori-gori skin ke liye main marta nahi,
Kyunki main hoon sher, ghaas charta nahi.”
Look at this other one. Too much of racism right!!
And yet, these songs have 200- 300 million views (!)
These are not all the songs which ae racist, there are many more. If i sit and make up a list, the list may reach my toe. Quite unsurprising for me.
If you have observed, you can see that most of the times, the villain of the movie, the comedian and the goons will be of darker skin tone. Why? Does dark skin make you a goon or a bad character?
Another part of racism in movies is the representation of south Indians. They are always shown as dark skinned people. I know that this is right TILL A LIMIT. It is not good when you show a fair south Indian as dark skinned person with false make up just because she/he is representing a south Indian.
I am no way stating that this happens in all the cases, but ya, it is a majority.
I hope you realise this grave situation and help fight it whenever you see it reading this blog. Please share your views in the comments section below.
