Keeping A Bullet Journal
Organisation is important for everyone; be it a school student, a teacher, an office worker. Everyone. At times, when you think everything is chaotic, simply organising everything can calm you down effectively. The most important thing to prioritise in organisation is the daily tasks. As a student myself, the most effective way to plan and organise my tasks is to maintain a Bullet Journal.
I have been maintaining a Bullet Journal for 3 years (well 2 as last year i did make one but I did not keep up with it, and believe me i was not good in keeping up with my assignments that year). I started a brand new Bullet Journal in 2021 and it has been going great. I have been on top of all my assignments and homework. But this is just my experience.
If you have been wanting to start a Bujo (Short for Bullet Journal), you might have seen the complex and beautiful spreads all over the Internet. It is overwhelming, I know. When I started my Bujo almost 4 years ago I too saw these, but I took the simple ones from Pinterest. Over time I did the more complex designs. Well, I did the complex ones only because I had a system where I drew all the spreads For each month for the coming academic year at once in Summer vacation. Since I had not maintained a journal for half a year in 2020, I felt a need to start a Bujo at the end of the year. That time I decided to start the fresh year with A brand new Bullet Journal. I did start one and I did one month or one week on the weekends. As the year proceeds, I often see myself busy to even do anything in my Bujo.
So the point to this long paragraph is that -- The spreads in your Bujo don’t have to be complex, they can be as hard and as easy as YOU want them to be.
You can simply start with a dotted journal (which is easily available and affordable on Amazon), some pens and colouring tools and you are good to go. I like to make my bujo as simple as possible.
You must think, why am I specifying a “Dotted journal''? It’s simply because it is easier and faster to draw straight lines. You can draw the spreads easily and faster.
Advice for beginners in Bullet Journaling is that don’t go behind your Bullet Journal being perfect because as they say “Done is better than perfect”
You can get many minimalist but cute spreads online. I personally love to set a theme for every month which helps me differentiate between months. I recently watched the T.V series “How I met your Mother” and I love it. It is Legen… wait for it… dary - Legendary. So I decided to make a month based on the same. I couldn't find many spreads related to the show, so I tried to use my creativity. Here’s how it went
This type of simplistic journal suits me. It isn’t necessary that it suits everyone. I am going to tell you how to keep your journal simple (So that it is not time consuming) and also cute.
The common layout of a Bujo is something like this:
Who does it belong to
Future log : I don't have a future log, but you can find some on the interenet
Grid spacing (It really helps to easily draw the required lines for the weekly spreads)
Then you start the months
4.1 Front Page
This will be the start of each month. I like to put a quote beside the front page, so it feels like a fresh start to each month
This is a more detailed calendar than what you have drawn in the Future log. You will be able to write the events for the coming month and even deadlines for assignments or projects
4.3 Month at a glance
This is a good page if you have monthly goals and are keen on completing them.
4.4 Habit Tracker
This is really helpful to you if you are starting new habits, such as learning a new language, or just tracking the ones you have not been regular with.
4.5Then the four weeks
This is self explanatory. You plan each day and write the tasks you have for each day.
I like to have 4 days on each page
This is the layout I follow and it's really effective.
To set themes for my Bujo is really easy. I usually see some pins on Pinterest and if I like it I base the whole month on that theme. You can even have a specific colour for each month. But I am a bit extra so I like to do the whole thing.
If you want your Bujo to be even simpler are less time consuming, I would suggest you to invest in some good Washi tape and stickers. They add a really good effect and they come in a HUGE variety of designs.
