Mistakes to Avoid while Baking (which i couldn't)

One of my most loved hobbies includes baking. I enjoy baking more than cooking. I just feel that all the academics and other stuff just disappear when I'm in the kitchen baking. It is so therapeutic. Adding the perfect amount of things, the sweet smell of vanilla. I mostly love baking cakes and cupcakes. I have recently started experimenting with frosting. It has not been an easy ride. Well, I'm still learning. There are bound to be some blunders and mistakes. In this blog, I'm going to tell you some mistakes to avoid (which I couldn't)

  1. Too much water :

Whenever you make the dough, Keep in mind, Do not put the measurement of liquid all at once, it may lead to you crying. Take the measurement of liquid in a separate cup and start putting it little by little. When I was making doughnuts, I accidentally added a little too much milk, it became a gooey mixture. I just got sad cause I wanted to make the perfect doughnuts. I didn't throw it away though, I chilled it in the fridge overnight and it was comparatively good the other day. I put in some flour and they came out perfect.

  1. Too much or too less:

This is one of the obvious mistakes. Sometimes you put in a little too much of an ingredient like sugar or cocoa powder. Sometimes you might put some ingredients in the mix like vanilla or baking soda/powder. The only way to avoid this is to check all the ingredients’ measurements twice or thrice before putting it in.

A note about vanilla - If the vanilla essence you have is too strong, put in half the measurement of the given. In the same doughnuts mentioned in the first point I put in the exact amount of strong vanilla and I also put more vanilla in the glaze I prepared. You know what happened, it was too vanilla-ee

  1. Following two different recipes for the same baked good:

In order to explain this, I am going to have to tell you a story. It was my mom’s birthday and like all other birthdays in my family since lockdown, I prepared a cake. I didn't have a particular ingredient which would be fine. So I decided to follow another recipe for the frosting which didn't include the said ingredient. I did. The cake was awesome and even the frosting too. Just one little thing, I didn't have enough frosting to cover the entire cake. Overall the cake was a little dry as there wasn't sufficient frosting.

The basic point of the story is that if you are following two different recipes, make sure to get the proportions right. If you make it and have a gut feeling it won't be enough, GO WITH IT.

  1. Trust yourself

If you are following a recipe, FOLLOW IT.  Mistakes happen. But that's how we learn. Even if you have created something which looks weird at first, Trust the process

Ending this blog I will say, Experimenting with food, trying out recipes is really fun. But on an important note - DO NOT WASTE FOOD.
