Work wear for all!

Fashion Blog time! You all seem to love our fashion blogs and we've gotten some incredible responses. That is why we bring to you another one.

Inculcating fashion and trends in daily life is kind of difficult. One can't keep up with everything and everyone. Sometimes it's easier to pick out a black t-shirt and jeans. But for all fashion lovers like us, it's a responsibility to make a statement in every look. That has a downside too. Most don't have the time to pick and choose the perfect necklace and curate an outfit every day. Some say planning for the week ahead is easy, which is absolutely true. So, why this blog? For those times when it's an "emergency" and you've got to look your best. It's nice to have a few looks to fall back on when you have "nothing to wear". This blog is especially targeted at everyday workwear or college wear. So you won't find any neon sneakers in here. Although it makes for a great statement, colleges and corporate places are usually formal and expect a certain level of professionalism, which the neon is not very indicative of :).

With that cleared out, let us check out all the tips you've to keep in mind to wow your colleagues as well as be confident with every step you take.

Comfort first: Any job, any workplace- it is very important to dress comfortably. It's distracting to make sure your stilettos are not damaged or the pencil skirt is not riding up. After all, you're there to work hard and do your best! That is why we need to pick out our clothes wisely. That eliminates the black bodycon dress. Or the stilettos. Or the jeans that are tight on the waist. We need none of those. Zilch. But hear me out, please don't wear your PJ pants and a hoodie to work. Our main motive is to dress to feel confident and express. Not to feel like a potato and have an urge to roll up on your bed. You've to get it Goldilocks right. Not too tight, not too loose - just right.

Separating: Just like you have clothes for sleeping and lounging which are separate from the pieces that you wear to a day out, we need to have separate work clothes. That doesn't mean you've to shop till you drop. Let me explain.

If you have 10 tops, pick a few as loungewear and a few for work. Why? This will actually train your brain to work accordingly. As soon as you sit on the couch, you feel like switching on the TV. With the same logic, as soon as you put on your workwear- it will be time to be a boss lady! or boss man, or however you identify. But boss.

I tried this experiment when online schools were a quite recent phenomenon. I picked out five t-shirts for school. I'd wear them just for school. That got me into the mood to study and be a little bit more enthusiastic about school. Now we've to wear our uniforms which is sad.

Essentials: Adding or choosing essentials is an integral step. You've to assess your wardrobe and find out the pieces that you would like to wear to work. So we know, these are clothes that are the perfect amount of comfortable- not a part of home wear. But it is also important to keep in mind the addition of some basics. White t-shirts or shirts, a perfect pair of trousers, or even a kurta that you like could be added in this group of essentials. It is important to keep in mind the flexibility of each item. It'll be much easier to have a series of basics that will actually allow you to mix and match without looking like a mess. Choose wisely!

Neatness: This is an obvious one. It is important to maintain neatness at a workplace. It is not only a sign of professionalism but also, to some extent, dedication or interest. That's another reason why you should definitely not step into office/college in an unstyled pair of pyjamas. It is important to have clean clothes. I say this because I often observe people who resist washing clothes. Even if you're outfit isn't a style statement, at least let it be clean! You're sharing a space with tens or maybe hundreds of people around you. Make it a pleasant experience for them by wearing clean clothes. It is also a good practice to wear ironed clothes. Some items might not require ironing or steaming, but if it's a crumpled shirt- take the iron right now!

Colour pattern: No neons, basically. Sticking to a colour pattern makes the second step easier. However, our main motive is to stick to a style. Wearing muted colours to work or college is most appropriate. They aren't too risky and easy to style - which totally avoids a fiasco. I usually love neutral clothes as a teenager because it gives a sort of mature look. It speaks "hey I'm important and please give me the same attention as others". It's a cheeky trick, but it works all the time.

If you're a fan of colour, don't worry! We've ways to sneak in colour. Try wearing colours that are slightly washed or have a pastel-like an appearance. If that's not your vibe, go for autumn colours. Olive trousers or peach shirts don't hurt. Just pair them with other neutral counterparts. Easy!

The shoes: Most colleges and corporate places usually require a journey through the train, car, bus or some vehicle. But it does require travel. Some also prefer bicycles, which BTW is a great way and an extremely environment-friendly option. For such specifications, we must choose the right footwear. As we've discussed, comfort first. Heels might go well with your outfit, but flats or even sneakers maybe a little bit more comfortable. If you REALLY have to wear heels, try block heels, or even platforms. I've tried them as a youngster and they're quite comfortable. But with heels, irrespective of the kind, make sure you pick a well-fitted, comfortable and safe pair.

Heels aside, I personally feel a pair of sandals work just perfect. Owning a black pair will also mean that you don't have to put thought into how your outfit is coordinated with them. It's always the perfect option! If you reside in rainy areas, keep a waterproof pair of shoes handy.

You could also try basic ballerinas and simple sneakers, but as mentioned earlier, neutral colours will be the most appropriate.

Accessories: Keeping it simple has been the entire theme. It is obvious that my suggestion would be sticking to dainty jewellery. Simple earrings or a bracelet. Take help of the picture to understand better. My personal favourite accessory has to be a watch- looks cool + useful! You could totally avoid unnecessary bulky bags, and stick to backpacks. The variety is endless. You can pick out whatever has the highest functionality and well I could ask you to pick neutral colours, but bags can be fun :)
