Tution : Gain or Vain
Being in 9th standard, tuition has become much of a necessity for me and some of my friends. Why you may ask, to cope up with the overwhelming level of workload we have. They sometimes don’t help and just add to the load, but at times, they lessen the load thrice. Believe me, I was one of the ‘anti-tutioniers’ before I ended up in tuition myself.
I’ll tell you my story. When a whole lot of my friends were joining tuitions, I quite opposed it. I strongly disagreed with their unexplainable fees which are twice and thrice my school fees. Secondly, they were known to put students under extreme stress. It was a pretty well-known fact that tuition is a sickness. They are mentally and physically exhausting. They overload you will worksheets and work to do and the child is left unable to complete his or her school work. Lastly, another fact that was know was continuous classes for 5 - 6 hours without a break.
These facts were enough for me to answer no straight to my parents when they asked me whether I required tuition. I saw my friends (I must say, a particular friend) go extremely stressed up due to her tuition. I kind of felt my decision was right. I saw (her) being forced to sit for 6 hours for 15 minutes break.
Then 9th standard. I felt suddenly overloaded with work. I was spending endless hours to keep up. After a month of school starting, I needed a session with a psychiatrist due to my extreme schedule and sudden waking during nights. I was forcing my mind in agreeing that tuition was not required. I had started to doubted whether my decision was right to not join tuition.
Finally, I had to give in. I couldn’t risk my mental stability for the sake of my ego that tuitions are bad. And then I joined X ( name changed ). I must admit, I sat in a very irritating manner for the trial class. I couldn’t bring myself to admit that my opinion of tuitions was wrong.
I’ll fast forward my story - I was proven blank wrong. The tuition I joined I believe is the best. They have never made me sit for more than 2 hours at one sit. Some teachers understood me and made sure that I was 100% clear. They kept extra classes out of their personal time for me. For me and my ‘stereotypical’ thought of tuitions. But what about my friend? Why did she have such a tough time at her tuition?
All this thought has led me to this conclusion: there are several types of tuitions. It completely depends on you which type of tuition you decide to join. But the only question that remains is - why do they have such a high unreasonable charge. The average salary of an Indian tuition teacher is 1.6 lakh rupees in one year and the average salat=ry of a private school teacher is 1.8 lakh per year. The average fees of an ICSE private school in a year are 43 thousand and the price of tuition of ICSE board for a year is around 1 lakh. I know that I have shown no proper comparison here. The reason is, even after knowing so much information, I do not have any idea why the prices are so high.
