Communication mistakes!!

Image
  1. Inappropriate introduction Introducing yourself properly is the first step in making a great first impression. A common error is starting your introduction with - 'Hello, Myself Sarah'. This is grammatically incorrect. Instead a good way to start your introduction would be -- 'Good morning/afternoon, I am Nancy' or 'hello, my name is Nancy' Another error people make when asking people their names is –'What is your good name?' This is an Indian expression, a direct translation from the Hindi 'Aapka shubh naam kya hai?' This expression should be avoided. The simple replacement is 'What is your name?' 2. Using fillers like umm, uh, you know, like, etc. Filler words like "um" may seem natural in everyday speech, but they do not belong in formal presentations or in interviews. Reducing the fillers is essential so that listeners can focus solely on their message. When you use a filler word such as "um," you are thinking...

Common Art Mistakes

Image
Art Mistakes You must have heard that there can be no mistakes in art. Like if you do something wrong it becomes abstract. In my opinion that's only applicable to great artists, and not common people like me and you. I have been drawing and painting for almost three years now. I'm not an epic artist, but I have learned a lot from this journey and I expect to learn much more. In this blog, I will be telling you the minor mistakes that you might make when you are drawing or painting Too much pressure One mistake I make more than I should be putting too much pressure on the pencil while sketching. This causes two problems. Erasing, when you erase the drawing you can still see the lines and it becomes a rigid line that cannot be completely erased. Painting,  when you start painting after sketching with too much pressure, you can see the line no matter how much you try to erase it  Solution: using an HB or 2B pencil or as the saying goes, "Practice makes a man perfect" T...

Fashion Dos and Don'ts

Image
Fashion & Beauty - Common Mistakes With all the possibilities we fashionistas have been exploring, it seems almost overwhelming at this point. Endless possibilities, a variety of styles, and to add to that, an enormous rule book to follow, one is bound to end up in a neon jumpsuit! Not only that, trends are changing as fast as the climate is. Trends are dependent on time. Yesterday, vests and low-waists were cool, today turtlenecks and skirts are the thing. When did fashion become academic? We’ve often made guides for you to learn more about mix ‘n’ match, but do you see yourself relying on these blogs for every outfit. That just seems impracticable. The resources on the internet might help you analyse your style and act as guidelines, but no one will review every outfit for you. So what do we do? Just follow what not to do while styling, and trust me, that list is pretty short. Table Of Contents Personal Style The Baggy Rule Trends Personal Style: This is the unive...

Are we wasting our time in school?

Image
The photo above makes the question look very serious, like VERY serious. The system of school has been there with humanity for thousands of years. In the olden times, it was the gurukul system, then private tutoring and slowly and steadily we have reached where we are now. Where exactly have we reached now? Well, there are hardly any destinations for these things. Changes for betterment will continuously come and go. Let's get onto the topic: “Are We Wasting Our Time In School” Honestly, I don't think so, but then why am I writing a blog about it? Because there are some important points that make me doubt it. I study in the Icse board. You may hear every other student of my age say that ‘Man, I want to quit school. I am just wasting my time.’ For an adult in their late 30s, it seems childish, but I guarantee you, it really is mad that 120 students in a standard are expected to have the same answer. The essays are expected to have the same out of box ideas and the notices are ...

Travel Essentials

Image
TRAVEL ESSENTIALS As things are opening up, one of the many things people are doing is travel. I have seen a lot of people posting pictures of them on vacation. It makes me wanna go somewhere too. The last time I went for a vacation was in November 2019. It was a weekend away on a farm with my family In this blog, I'm going to be listing some of the most important things to pack while travelling whether it be a day picnic or an overnight stay. 1. A change of clothes This is obvious for an overnight stay, but for a day picnic, you might not think of it. If you are going to a watery place like a beach or a water park, it is safe to bring a change of clothes. Don't forget about undergarments. 2. An first aid kit We are all humans, so accidents are bound to happen. Having a first aid kit on hand for yourself is great, and it is also useful when someone else requires something. Here is a link to a first aid checklist 3. Cleaning stuff Wherever we go we can get dirty. For example a...

What's new?

Image
Nothing new.   Newspapers- A culture in India. My story with newspapers started as soon as I was born. The sight of the piling up of these fact-filled pages was a common one. The raddiwala would weigh that junk with an odd apparatus and take it away. A fresh one would arrive every morning. Until one fine day, when it became a memory. The phenomenon of digitization occurred. Newspapers became available on apps. Suddenly, there wasn’t any time to read the newspapers and phones were the destination to everything. Years later, my interaction with newspapers took place. I love reading, so I would read it as as mall book. This was at the daycare I stayed at after school when I was twelve. ( Tell me about over-protective parents! ) Fast forward to 9th grade, on the recommendation of my English Teacher, we decided to get back to newspapers. I rediscovered the world. After a few months of reading it, I have fallen in love with the editorial page. I specifically love the bottom-l...

Be Inspired!

Image
Many a time, I randomly sit in front of my computer screen. I would just be staring at my desktop wallpaper which was just the standard window 7 one. I knew there were a lot of things to be done. There were notes to be completed, power points to be written, relations to be maintained, items to be cleaned, but here I was staring at the same old wallpaper. And as many times it occurs to me, I realised ‘i was not inspired!’ this sentence doesn’t make sense by itself. I must say, ‘ at that point, I did not have anything to inspire me. I was just lost in the usual senseless mind.’ I don’t have my own mobile, but a tab. I noticed that my wallpaper in mostly Harry Potter, something that distracts me the most. My friends have a ‘vision board’ as wallpaper. I decided to try out that. I made a fantastic vision board which is now my wallpaper. Every time I open my computer, I see faces that have inspired me to grow, people for whom I live, and the causes for which I work. I make me more pro...

Just Another Sunday

Image
It’s just another Sunday, You are feeling lazy like literally anybody else on this planet. Maybe you are watching a movie with your sibling, knowing the number of assignments and studies you are ignoring then. But you still continue to be lazy. Now I am not saying this is me but it is. We all like to give ourselves breaks but are we giving ourselves more breaks than we actually need. All I want to say is that we feel guilty about not doing work once in a while and we think to ourselves I’ll cover it up tomorrow. Some of you may actually do that but some of you may not. Time is essential, it is passing as you read this. To save your time, you may make a timetable and not follow it once in a while, but that is just human nature.  The thing I wish to convey by this blog is that you may think it is just another Sunday you have not done anything productive. But how many Sundays have you had not done anything productive? This is a motivational message for myself and all other stu...

Consumerism

Image
Peek into History:  Cave person 1: Hey did you check out my latest outfit made out of the exotic banyan tree leaves and fibres? They're handpicked.  Cave person 2: Oh yes! Looks very good on you. Speaking of trees, did you notice my new axe? It's by Lucas Vuitton.  Cave person 1: I bet it's pretty sharp! They make the best ones.  Both laugh together.  Doesn't seem like a legitimate conversation. Yup, it's just a joke. No citizens of the stone age could ever be imagined talking about this. However, when you think about two people sitting in a cafe and talking about similar topics, it seems pretty normal. What am I hinting at here? Is it already in the title? Probably.  Consumerism is a wildly modern phenomenon. One could never imagine the commoners of the 14th century gaping over the latest Prada collection with desperate eyes. Facts say that humans now own more than they ever did in history. Look around your abode, you'll find stuff everywhere! Furni...

Movie Recommendations

Image
Many students are most probably on vacation for Diwali right now. After this vacation, you won’t spend much free time with your family as you will have a lot of work. One of the activities to spend time with your family is watching movies. In this blog, I will be giving you a bunch of movie recommendations. Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) If you are not familiar with this, then what are you doing? If you are you know what I’m talking about. So marvel movies are based on the comics written by stan lee and they are amazing. If you are like me and have seen all the MCU movies, I suggest you check out the new releases of MCU or just rewatch Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Cause let’s be honest no one gets bored of those epic movies Catch Me If You Can This is a movie from 2002 based on the true story of a con artist. When the main character runs from his own house, away from his parents, he finds himself in need of money. Throughout the movie, he pretends to be a pilot, a doctor ...

Marks

Image
Bad Morning. It’s time to dress up. Drag yourself to the bathroom. Wear that hideous and ill-fitting uniform. Pack your bag. Head out with Ma. It’s result day. Every atom of your body is nervous. Your mind is only revolving around the worst-case scenarios. “Did I perform well enough in History?” “What if I fail, and Neha passes? Or worse- she is the topper and I missed it by a mark?” “Why can’t my papers just disappear?”   Hello, and welcome to the nightmare of every Indian teenager ever! That was my situation on Saturday. Result Days are always nerve-racking experiences. It’s the same kind of anxiety you get on the day of the exam, except that this one has wilder fantasies. Why is that so? Because marks are a dominating factor in an Indian’s lifetime. The numbers determine your future. Your value is lies within those numbers.  Now, when you look at it from an Indian Aunty’s perspective, this system sounds quite fair. The able ones go ahead, get what they deserve, beca...
